Daily Devotional - "Through the Eyes of a Cop"

Be on Your Guard

Dispatch (Assignment): Read Numbers 28:16 - 29:40, Luke 3:23-38, Psalm 62:1-12, and Proverbs 11:18-19.

Briefing: I worked with an officer who used to go around whispering dissension in the ears of his fellow workers. He would tell them that they should resist and refuse to follow their leaders. Then he would sit back and watch the fireworks.

On the Street: (Psalm 62:4) Law enforcement officers deal with deceitful people. Sometimes we are aware of their deceitfulness, sometimes we are caught off guard. David mentions people who bless with their mouths and curse with their hearts. They will smile to your face then stab you in the back. How do you deal with people like this? One way is to treat them like they have treated you. This is the way of the flesh. Eye for eye and tooth for tooth. David shows us a better way to handle people like this.

Instead of dealing with them, David puts them and their behavior at God's feet, steps back and confesses, "I trust you LORD". This is an example we should all follow. Let God fight the battle for you.

Investigational Resources: James 1:5.

Officer Safety Principle:Pray for wisdom and discernment. This has been an officer safety principle before, but it is so important that it demands another reminder.
